People is used in multiple cases, one of which is a collective noun of a group of persons having a similar trait or coming from a similar location. It is a generic term and can be specific as well as vague depending upon the use. Another use of the word people is the plural form of person. Often the word “persons” is replaced by people, in order to describe a less specific statement.

The word “people” has slightly different significance in various fields, like the religion politics, law and many more. While in religion, the world “people” is a casual reference to a group of human beings with the same religion; in politics, people generally mean the citizens under the governance of a particular government. In law, certain jurisdictions have the prosecutions done under the name of the people, which is a general reference to the state that comes under the law.
