Region is basically a geographical terminology which is used to connote any medium scale area of water or land, smaller than what the entire area under consideration encompasses (it may be a nation, world, mountain range or river basin) and usually larger than one specific site. It may also be a congregation of many small units or simply a part of a large area. Usually, regions are defined by their human characteristics, functional characteristics and physical characteristics. There is a specific field of subject geography that is dedicated to the study of varied regions known as the regional geography.

People living in a particular region are seen to have regional deflections in terms of the way they behave, the attire they don, the food they eat and the way they speak. There may be various regional dialects within a given area as there may be more than one region that comes under it.
