Pets are docile animals that are kept at home with the purpose of providing company, enjoyment or security in some cases. It is very unlike animals that are utilized for laboratory purposes, livestock or sports. The pets are predominantly chosen for their loyalty, playfulness, and their appearance. Recent study has shown that keeping pets have helped people in relieving stress and other trivial health problems.

Pets are owned according to the desires and the affordability. Certain animals such as dogs and cats are considered small pets and are relatively easy to buy. The same goes with a few birds like parrot. However, large animals like horses and sheep are considered large animals, and not all can afford to own them, as they need a particular habitat and food to live properly. Going by the popularity scales, dogs and cats are the most preferred, followed by birds and horses. A very few daring people even keep dangerous reptiles like crocodiles as pets.
