Programming is the multi-layered process of creating a software program where the source code of the program is written, tested, debugged and maintained. It is also known as coding. The source code of the program can be written in a programming language. The idea behind programming is to create software or a program that can satisfy some pre-determined set of requirements.
 

The process of programming requires a lot of other expertise except for a programming language. A programmer must be absolutely clear about the requirements of the final program, and the algorithms and the logics to be used to create the program. Besides writing the code of a program, the final software must be tested with real life situations that it has to face, and all the errors and warnings that surface should be handled, which is known as debugging. Finally, the software needs to be maintained to keep up with the changing needs and advancements in the technology.
